Reviewed 2007-10-01

Aaron Shust's sophomore release, Whispered and Shouted is a solid follow-up to his successful debut Anything Worth Saying.

Listeners can expect honest songwriting combined with a catchy, pop delivery. There are a few surprises though, when Shust incorporates a few more driving, rock-oriented songs on this effort like "Long Live The King," and "Like I Never Felt Before."

Other songs are more familiar, pop, acoustic guitar-based or piano-based numbers, including the radio-friendly "Give Me Words To Speak," "Life Itself" and "I Will Wait."

His faith is evident throughout, as he encourages a diverse audience of listeners with meaningful messages that serve to inspire, and offer hope. The lyrics are thoughtful and well crafted. The vocals at times are raw and gritty, and the musicianship is quality.

In addition, listeners will have the opportunity to get to know the stories behind each of the songs when they read the included CD insert.

Shust was a GMA Music Award/Dove Award winner in 2007 in the "New Artist of the Year," "Song of the Year" and "Songwriter of the Year" categories. And, if this project is any indication, there will be more awards to come.

Those who appreciate positive, heartfelt songs with melodic choruses will welcome Whispered and Shouted.
