The Blood is undoubtedly my favorite Kevin Max solo project. The gospel/spiritual stylings and message are powerfully conveyed by Max's expressive voice, still impressive in its range and flexibility, from the Johnny Cash-styled "Old Rugged Cross" to one of my favorites, "People Get Ready," a duet with Erica Campbell of Mary, Mary. Fans of dcTalk will enjoy their reunion on "The Cross," undoubtedly inspiring hope of future Toby, Michael and Kevin collaborations.

Another guest appearance comes from American Idol 2007 finalist Chris Sligh on the 1943 classic "Run on for a Long Time", recorded by Johnny Cash as "God's Gonna Cut You Down." Then there's Vince Gill and Amy Grant on a rollicking "Up Above My Head I Hear Music In The Air." A delightful "One Way-One Blood" duet with Joanne Cash closes out an excellent project that's sure to please fans of gospel, country and blues. Whether it's songs like "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power," or "I Know His Blood Can Make Me Whole," this CD carries a powerful and enduring redemptive message while utilizing tremendous music. This one's a great stocking stuffer for music lovers.
