Songs 4 Ever chronicles Christian pop and adult contemporary history over the past three decades. That's fine, as you get a box of ten CDs packed with 150 songs, but to call it "The Ultimate Christian Music Collection" seems like a stretch when no real rock music is included. Third Day's "Consuming Fire" and Rebecca St. James' "God" are about as rocking as you'll get in this collection.
You won't find Switchfoot, Caedmon's Call or many other significant bands, and the early days are barely represented. That said, there's plenty of Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Chris Tomlin, Amy Grant and tons of Michael W. Smith to keep the light worship and adult contemporary crowd happy. There will always be choices to quibble with in a collection this large, but overall, I think Songs 4 Ever is a decent representation of the K-Love brand of adult radio Christian music commonly known as CCM.
This hinged box set will be sure to thrill a close friend (it's over $100) or family member who loves CCM.
