I first heard Alli Rogers at GMA in the Rockies this summer. She immediately reminded me of Sara Groves, and that's a good thing. Alli is a talented songwriter who sings beautifully and passionately. While some of her songs are piano-based and others are focused more on acoustic guitar, they are all firmly grounded in her lyrics and vocals. Alli's storytelling skills shine on tracks like "Closer To The Moon":

Sydney says that nothing is just anything / she doesn't like to use the word when she prays / I guess trusting is the hardest part / of having faith / it's dangerous to hope that things will be okay / Well maybe fog and fear / keep our eyes from seeing clear / I think Sydney could be right / she could be right / but if the stars that shine are in any way a sign / I think someone's out there putting up a fight / someone's right here holding us tonight

Producer Don Chaffer (Waterdeep) effectively draws out Alli's creativity on this clean sounding project. Someone once told me that indie artists don't have label deals because they're not good enough, but Alli has twice the talent of most Christian label artists. If you appreciate folk pop singer-songwriters with great voices and songwriting, check out You And The Evening Sky.
