Bart Millard's Hymned No. 1 was a successful hymn project featuring special guests and well-known hymns. Three years later, the MercyMe lead singer's follow-up leaves the guests behind. The songs are generally more recent, but that just means 1800s instead of 1700s. There's still a Southern gospel flavor to the project, with a touch of bluegrass and jazz, with all of the songs sounding like a small town Sunday night church service, and that's not a bad thing for fans of the old standards.
Hymned Again opens with "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus," and continues with hymns that were all familiar to me except for "Brethren We Have Met to Worship." The album closes with a simple but moving version of "Grace That Is Greater." If you enjoyed Bart's first hymn project, you won't want to miss the sequel.
