Seventh Day Slumber decided to take a new twist on worship classics with their Take Everything project. Cranking up the intensity on "recent traditional" tunes like "Famous One," "Nothing But The Blood," and "I Can Only Imagine," the band hopes to broaden the appeal of some timeless worship songs to a crowd that's used to rocking a little harder. My favorite is probably their take on "Mighty To Save," but the project opener, "How Great Is Our God," is also high on my list.
The album adds three Seventh Day Slumber tunes, including their hit "Oceans From The Rain" and the title track. Not all of the songs are intense modern rockers, but all convey the passion that this band feels for the gospel message. Frontman Joseph Rojas was saved after a near-death experience in the midst of his cocaine addiction, and his passion for spreading the freedom that comes in Jesus Christ exceeds his passion for music. He is the president of Teenhopeline, reaching thousands of youth through their hopeinanguish.com cyber radio station and syndicated FM broadcast show that he hosts. The ministry partners with Seventh Day Slumber to follow up with those who respond to the band's message at concerts.
Take Everything is one of the more original worship approaches we've seen recently, and I hope my son's worship band ends up doing a couple of these versions. If you like the idea of fresh rocking arrangements of some familiar songs, check out Take Everything. You won't be disappointed.
