I reviewed Broken Wall's Rise up Mighty Warrior in 2003. Jonathan Maracle and his friends perform dances and Christian songs written in traditional Native American styles. The players and dancers are Mohawk, Cherokee, Oneida-Seneca, Metis, Nanticote, Cree, Onondaga-Cayuga and Italian. Yes, Kris DeLorenzi doesn't belong to a traditional North American tribe, but he has been part of the Broken Walls team for several years and wrote five quality songs on Drum.

One of my favorite songs on Drum is Sianer (Jesus Died That I Might Live) by Jonathan:

Si ia ner da kwon hey ya say / Na goon hey gay, Na goon hey gay // Jesus died that I might live / That I might live

I especially appreciated Jonathan's liner note:

I pray that those whose hearts have been tainted by the "colonial gospel" that says "You must give up your sin stained culture and embrace my sin stained culture in order to know Jesus," won't stop you from reaching those out there who are lost and dying.

All followers of Christ should agree with that.

Drum will appeal to anyone open to a tribal/chant sound with a solid Christian message.
