Michael W. Smith has been a major player in Christian music for over two decades. ForHealing Rain, Smitty returned to his pop roots as he collaborated with some old friends like Wayne Kirkpatrick. However, he also moved in new directions as he co-wrote three songs with that other M. Smith, Martin Smith of Delirious?. With the influence of producer Matt Bronleewee (Jars of Clay, Plumb), Smith has produced a pop album that will undoubtedly generate several Christian radio hit songs, including the title track:
Healing rain, it comes with fire / So let it fall and take us higher / Healing rain, I'm not afraid / To be washed in Heaven's rain / Lift your heads, let us return / To the mercy seat where time began / And in your eyes I see the pain / Come soak this dry heart with healing rain
You won't get anything stunningly new in Healing Rain, but you won't be disappointed, either. It's just a first-rate pop record like we've come to expect from Michael W. Smith. From the upbeat Here I Am, to the impassioned cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water, to the prayerful All I Want, Christian pop fans have another reason to give thanks.
