Everyday Sunday's sophomore release,Anthems For The Imperfect, shows why the band was named one of the "Favorite New Artists of 2003" by readers of CCM Magazine. They were also named "Best New Artist of the Year" by TVU Music Television, thanks to Lose It Again, the #5 video of 2003, and "Wait," the #21-ranked video. Both are included on their Stand Up DVD, along with photos, audio tracks, a "making of" feature and a fun indy video (and that was your free bonus review embedded within a review).
On Anthems..., Everyday Sunday's modern rock sound has been augmented by the addition of another guitarist, resulting in a more melodic and hook-laden flavor. The lyrics speak of the hard times in life, but clearly offer God as the only lasting answer to life's struggles, as in I Wish I Could Say:
It'll be ok, it's just a phrase / I, I know I'm not perfect / I know sometimes it's hard / To come up strong / So maybe we, we can work it out / To do our best to give a little help / Only God can say everything's all right / It'll be ok, and I'll be fine
Most of the record rocks, but a gentle prayer, The One, closes out the CD; somewhat surprisingly, this mellow moment was brought to life with the assistance of guest background vocalist Matt Thiessen of Relient K.
Anthems For The Imperfect would make a nice graduation present for that nephew or niece you never know what to get, even if you think they're perfect.
