Skillet's new Collide project showcases Christian hard rock at its best, evincing passion in John Cooper's raw vocals and industrial-style lyrics. Their first single, Savior, has spent the past several weeks at #1 on the Christian rock charts:
It's time to redefine your deophobic mind / Don't hestitate, no escape from secrets on the inside / I am the eyes inside / staring back at you. You need me
While the band lineup has remained the same--John Cooper on bass and lead vocals, his wife Korey on keys, Ben Kasica on guitars, and Lori Peters on drums--they have reduced the techno elements and increased the emphasis on guitars. The music isn't exactly original, but it's a change for Skillet, and fans of hard music will enjoy the collision. While Collide is often dark, it offers ultimate hope.
