Ric Cori'sThawing The Iceman is an enjoyable collection of pop rock songs characterized by honest and heartfelt lyrics. Cori handled all of the performances and programming on the project except for a few guest appearances, including former 24 Wet Feet bandmates Rob Cori on drums (three tracks) and Linda Shay on lead guitar (four tracks). The album title comes from the catchy On Fire:
no one's saying that it would be easy / turning pyrite into gold / but there's a love that keeps refining / i'm on fire / i'm on fire / Your love can burn through me / stop me where i am / melt away my fears / thaw the iceman / Your love is all i need
The first track, Remember, won first place in the pop/rock category at the 2000 Seminar in The Rockies Songwriting Competition:
Lord i am singing / You will remember me / and i'll sing it loud and strong forever / if i ran into the depths of the ocean / climb a mountain only Your eyes could see / if i crawl into my darkest emotion / You still remember me
Thawing The Iceman portrays life as it really is--hope and joy intermingled with regret and failure--yet still holding out the promise of ultimate redemption in Christ. As Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield, Poco) says,
Ric Cori's a very talented guy whose love for the Lord Jesus Christ is so apparent from the songs he's written for his new project - "Thawing The Iceman"!
