Today, Kids In The Way re-releases Apparitions of Melody, not with a "special edition", but with The Dead Letters Edition. This re-release features two new songs, the band's three music videos, and an eleven-minute behind-the-scenes video. This video includes a few clips of the band playing live, some footage in the studio, and the rest is the guys just having a good time.
Fiction, the first of the new songs, is about living a fake life, and typical of Pelsue's songwriting, has a poetic touch to it:
We're making fiction of our lives / Burning pages as we write / We read the lies between the lines / These dead letters won't survive // A dusty record spins, an old song plays again / The needle dragging across its skin / Ink spills from my pen, the paper soaks it in / The music bringing tremors to my hand / I can't just give you up, just lift you up to chance on a dragonfly's wing
Getting Over You Getting Over Me, the other new song, is a reflection about losing a love:
Here lies a desperate heart / Covered in scars and broken parts / Never knowing what it's fighting for / Only knowing that its love is sure // We had a love like Johnny and June / I felt alive, I would have died for you / The gallows on the hill cast a shadow for two / As me and my love hang alone at high noon / So this is me getting over you, getting over me.
The short behind-the-scenes video featured on the DVD is a fun watch any Kids fan will enjoy. In fact, any fan of Kids In The Way will want to get their hands on this Dead Letters Edition.
