Charlie Hall, one of the most talented singer/songwriter/worship leaders on the scene today, delivers his fourth album, The Bright Sadness, on Sixsteps Records with a collection of 13 songs that are not only encouraging, but packed with hope-filled messages.
It has been two years since Hall’s Flying Into Daybreak release, and The Bright Sadness proves to be stronger than ever. Produced by band member Kendall Combes and David Hodges (Evanescence), Hall showcases his stirring vocals, and stellar songwriting ability, and at the same time, he continues to do what he does best—lead the church and its believers in worship.
Musically, The Bright Sadness is a mix of rock/worship tunes that reflect upon personal, yet universal experiences. Lyrically, Hall also dares to cover some groundbreaking territory with songs like “Hookers and Robbers” and “New Year.”
Other standouts include “Chainbreaker,” “Walk the World,” and “Mystery,” which he is already performing on the Passion World Tour.
In some ways, this project is not just a typical worship record, it is so much more, and that is a good thing. The songs not only offer a fresh perspective, but they are deep enough to really make you think. Overall, this is an upbeat effort that deserves attention. Give it a listen.
