Glenn Kaiser is the granddaddy of Christian hard rock. Starting in the 70s, his Resurrection Band (later Rez) combined hard rock and hard-hitting lyrics from a Christian worldview. Over the past few years Kaiser has focused primarily on blues projects (although he's also put out a few worship albums and an R&B album). The Glenn Kaiser Band is the quintessential power blues trio, with Glenn on guitars, harmonicas and vocals, backed by former Rez bassist Roy Montroy and drummer Ed Bialach.
On Live, the band performs songs from all three GKB projects, as well as from Glenn's solo Ripley County Blues and Spontaneous Combustion. Standouts include Runaway Train, with over 10 minutes of jamming, and three tracks featuring Dave Beegle's amazing guitar work added to the mix. Robert Johnson's Crossroads rounds out the collection, recorded here for the first time by GKB. While there's plenty of noisy blues rock, Glenn always includes potent lyrics as well. His passionate gritty voice conveys his love for God and for his wife as he draws the listener in to his story-telling, like any true blues artist must do.
Fans of GKB will not want to miss this raw live recording--it's the real thing, with no studio overdubs. If you haven't heard of GKB, but you like electric blues a la Stevie Ray Vaughn, GKB Live is a great introduction to one of the top blues bands around, Christian or mainstream.
