City Of The Dead Fiction Review : 2009/10/12
City Of The Dead
by T. L. Higley
Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2009, 336 pp., paperback.
Tracy Higley's Seven Wonders historical fiction series continues with
City of the Dead. This novel focuses on Hemiunu, architect of Khufu's Great Pyramid. As with
Shadow of Colossus, I was immediately drawn into the tale, even though this book is written in first person (which I usually dislike).
Senosiris, one of Hemi's best workers, is a believer in the One True God. Along with his intriguing daughter Neferet, he draws Hemi into their fellowship of secret believers. They are the only ones Hemi can trust when a murderer appears determined to reveal dark secrets he shares with the pharaoh and several other friends from his youth.
The combination of history, mystery and a little romance makes this a delightful read for anyone with an interest in ancient Egypt. I recommend
City of the Dead.
