Pastor/author Mark Atteberry does a fine job of tackling the dumbest things Christians do. His book is humorous as well as hard-hitting, and completely practical. The chapter titles are as follows:
Slinging Mud on the Bride of Christ
Winning People to the Church Rather Than to the Lord
Living Below the Level of Our Beliefs
Speaking Above the Level of Our Knowledge
    Hopping From Church to Church
    Fighting Among Ourselves
    Missing Golden Opportunities
    Settling for Mediocrity
Allowing Wolves to Live Among the Sheep
    Accepting the Unacceptable
One of my favorite quotes is the following:
Have we become so obsessed with being seeker-friendly that we're reluctant to offer the whole counsel of God? (55)
I'm afraid that's dangerously true in many churches today. I recommend The 10 Dumbest Things Christians Do (the book, not the things themselves), especially for anyone involved in church leadership.

Dumb things 1, 3-10. I agree.
"Winning People to the Church Rather Than to the Lord"? Sounds like he just committed #1. Of course, I'd have to read the book to actually understand what his point is. But isn't the Church the Bride of Christ?. And isn't it also Christ's very Body? Winning people to the Church is only a problem if the "church" has separated from Christ. Logically, of course, then it's no longer the Church. If someone is won to a true church they will be pointed in the direction of Christ.

I loaned the book to a friend, but as I recall, his point was about winning people to the specific church environment, programs, etc., rather than to the Bride of Christ. Think of someone loving the decor, the worship style, the potlucks, the sense of community, etc., above loving the Lord. Think "church" as in physical local assembly rather than universal body.
