Wind River Fiction Review : 2008/08/04
Wind River
by Tom Morrisey
Minneapolis: Bethany House, 2008, 302 pp., tradepaper.
Wind River takes us into the wilds of Wyoming, as an emotionally scarred Iraq vet fulfills a promise to take an elderly friend on one last fly-fishing trip. Tyler Perkins is suffering from combat-induced guilt and depression that is destroying his marriage and faith, but reuniting with his 86-year-old mentor Soren forces him to take a fresh look at life.
Author Tom Morrisey specializes in the outdoors--no surprise considering his background as a travel writer for
Sport Diver and other magazines. While
Wind River starts off as a straight-forward account of fly-fishing, mountain hiking and friendship, some major plot twists turn it into a suspense thriller. This is one of the better novels I've read over the past few months, so I definitely recommend it.
