The Second Chance
2006 Provident Label Group

The Second Chance offers up several surprises. Yes, it's a movie about preachers, but these preachers have real emotions and real problems. With Steve Taylor (Christian music legend) directing, I knew there would be a few twists, but I honestly didn't expect the movie to be as good as it was.

Michael W. Smith does a fine job of portraying the spoiled worship pastor son of a megachurch founding pastor. Jeff Obafemi Carr is the street-smart African-American pastor of the megachurch's inner city sister church who has to put up with Smith's character after The Rock's elders decide that the young pastor needs a change of scenery for disciplinary reasons.

While some aspects of the story can't help but be predictable, The Second Chance comes across very well, especially when compared to some of the other recent Christian movie projects. I definitely recommend it.

The DVD special features include a Michael W. Smith music video, deleted scenes, a "Behind the Scenes" featurette and commentary from the director and actors.
