"No candidate should become the spokesman for his faith. For if he becomes president, he will need the prayers of the people of all faiths."All faiths? If a faith is false, what use are its prayers? Is prayer just some New Age cosmic force, or is it communication with a personality? Romney's statement was pure politics, for it's not even consistent with his Mormon beliefs. If he worships the true God, why would he need the prayers of those who worship trees, or perhaps themselves? Whatever you think of Romney, you have to admit he has a confused speechwriter when it comes to topics of faith.
Scott, I'd have a hard time disagreeing with you. It would be weird to vote for polytheist, though, wouldn't it?
Randy, I think that Romney was trying to refer to Christian denominations when he said "all faiths." I think that's the engineer inside you taking things too literal. That said, I'm sure the whole issue is politics. There are many who will not vote for him just because of his Mormon beliefs and he is trying to remove that issue.
Mark, I wish I knew which Mark you are: I know at least five well enough for them to respond, two of whom live in Utah. Perhaps he did mean denominations. Interesting take on what he said.
Well, here's a clue. I used to live in Utah, but no longer. Not enough? How about 'watch out for Hugo'. ;-)
Ah, yes, the former Utahn (is that the right term)? Nice to have you stop by. Anyway, I agree with you that he's being very political. I'm still not sure what to think about the whole thing, but I know I'd prefer him to Billary.
At this point, I predict Romney will get the Republican nomination. He's got the money to out pace Huckabee and the pro-lifers will get on board with him when their only other real option is Obama or Hillary. I'm not a prophet or the son of a prophet, but I can make predictions, can't I? You heard it here first, folks.
