A Killer's Soteriology : 2009-08-06

George Sodini is the Pittsburgh-area fitness center killer who was unable to find a girlfriend and decided to kill some women in retaliation. His blog is troubling to say the least as he explains his trials and motivations. Near the end he delves into theology:
Maybe soon, I will see God and Jesus. At least that is what I was told. Eternal life does NOT depend on works. If it did, we will all be in hell. Christ paid for EVERY sin, so how can I or you be judged BY GOD for a sin when the penalty was ALREADY paid. People judge but that does not matter. I was reading the Bible and The Integrity of God beginning yesterday, because soon I will see them.
Here we see the logical extrapolation of a non-Reformed evangelical view of salvation (soteriology). Jesus died for every individual, paying for every sin, and therefore everyone must be saved. Sodini is absolutely correct, unless particular redemption is true--Jesus paid for the sins of every one of His elect children. Here is a perfect example of how theology can affect actions.

Roger, you're as deep as ever! And the Bible is not only scriptural, it is scripture. So there you go.

Well Randy correct me if I'm wrong\., knowing you, you will.Jesus died
for all our sins up to that point, however there are certain things that take place after that govern the forgiveness aspect of redemption. There are other areas of the Bible that would tend not support the everyone is saved interpretation.

Glad to have found your site.

Allan, thanks for commenting. How can a sin be paid for, yet still unforgiven? That concept is foreign to the Bible. If not everyone is saved, that means not all sin is paid for and the sinner must pay the price himself. Forgiven sins are paid for, and paid for sins are forgiven.

Well sin it's self is paid for , however that only gives us the ability to be saved through the the death of Christ at our own decision as to weather we chose to accept Christ as our savior, We cannot be saved if we do not follow the way salvation is set out for us to follow other wise we could throw away the Bible and do our own merry thing and still be saved in spite of our selves.

Allan, the Bible says Jesus came to save his people from their sins, not merely to make them saveable. He raises dead sinners to life (see Ephesians 1 & 2, Romans 1-9, etc.). The author of our faith did it all. We lose the Reformation and return to Rome if we start adding to the work of Christ and say it was not enough. In John 6 Jesus said He came to do the will of the Father, and to lose none of all that the Father gave him. Later in John 17 he said he completed that work.

We don't throw away the Bible because if we are his sheep we will follow our shepherd. Anyone saying they didn't need the Bible would show by that attitude that they weren't actually saved.

Search for "Falwell" and read the lengthy comments for a lot more detail and Scriptural explanation. Thanks for getting involved!

Allan, I'm not sure which people you're asking about. Sodini is right that if Christ paid for everyone's sins, all are saved. However, I believe Jesus paid for the sins of everyone He saves, and those who stay in rebellion pay for their own as a result.
