I was doing some research on Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code with the television on when I saw the start of a commercial showing a diapered baby. As I worked, I heard a lady in a somber voice say,
"We are all created equal--right? Well, maybe not so equal...because some of us will come into this world without the legal rights to protect and support our future partner and children. Some of us will be left vulnerable and unprotected when it comes to health care benefits, medical decisions and naming a guardian. Why? Because some of us were born gay."
What? I hit the skip back button a few times and watched the whole thing again. Yep, without a scintilla of scientific evidence--in fact, in opposition to the research--the commercial flatly asserts that people are born gay. Incredible. The domestic partnership commercial uses the image of a baby and then speaks of caring for future children despite the fact that same-sex relationships produce no babies. This may be the most blatantly false propaganda I've seen, apart from beer commercials. You can see the commercial for yourself at this website.
